Welcome to Tongala Church

"A stream of life-giving water in a dry land"

Tongala

Regular worship in the Tongala congregation is difficult, since our group of older people are sometimes unable to offer a service. About half of the active congregation live in the nearby Aged Care Facility, (Koraleigh nursing home and R. M. McHale Hostel), and join the CLUSTER ZOOM LINK there, under the leadership of Moira Pankhurst, a resident Elder.

A weekly Ecumenical service of Christian worship, at 10:30am on Wednesdays, led by a roster of local lay and ordained leaders is normally part of the facility’s life.

This congregation has a vibrant history in this rural district and is part of the town’s street art project. We have been active in Ecumenical worship at Easter and Christmas. COVID 19, incapacity, deaths and moving into care have recently curtailed much of our former activity. The spirit is still willing, but the flesh is a little more reluctant than it used to be.

A Quilting Group meets every Monday, from 10am – 3pm. A very active and productive Craft group meets in the hall every Wednesday, 10am to 3pm. Annual Fellowship and Fund-Raiser luncheons in the local hotel in May and November, bring a wide range of semi-local and local people together. The Uniting Church Afternoon Fellowship normally meets 1:30pm on 1st Thursday of the month.
